DIY Neapolitan Ice Cream Purse

Neapolitan – it has all the greatest flavors! Who doesn’t love it?! (Although honestly, sometimes, depending on the day, I’ll just get a scoop from one of the flavors, and then, ya know, it kinda ruins the whole point of Neapolitan. I guess you could characterize me as one of those people who “eat it wrong.” Kinda like those people who eat Kit Kat’s by just biting into the whole thing! Now, I’m not that bad! Come on, I’m not a monster. I wasn’t raised in a barn!)

Anyway, does everyone know what month it is?! It’s National Ice Cream Month! Yep, in case you’re out of the loop and wanna join in on the celebrating (AKA eating ice cream for a perfectly good reason), mark in your 2017 planner – “July: Nat’l Ice Cream Month. Note to self: eat lots of ice cream.”

But it’s not too late to celebrate Ice Cream Month this year! I mean, we’re only halfway through July. So go ahead and eat some ice cream, and make this purse!

  • Pink purse (similar)
  • White multi-surface acrylic paint
  • Brown multi-surface acrylic paint
  • Painter’s tape
  • Ruler
  • Pen or pencil
  • Red faux fur “cherry” pom pom key chain (similar)

1. Use the ruler to measure approximately how wide the area of the purse you’re going to paint is. Approximately measure out (or calculate if you’re a perfectionist) the area into thirds (for the flavors…strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate), and make a small mark using either a pen or pencil.

2. Ripe off a piece of painter’s tape, and tape off the first area you’re going to paint. Smooth out any bubbles, and make sure the tape is stuck down really well.

3. Paint your first section. (If you want your purse to look exactly like mine, the first section you’ll be painting is the “vanilla.” NOTE: The “strawberry” section is already complete because the purse is pink!) You’ll probably need to do a few coats of paint, so if you wanna speed up the drying process, use a hairdryer in between coats.

4. Once your first area is painted and completely dry, tape off your next section (the “chocolate”). Make sure the tape is stuck down well, and smooth out any bubbles. Paint the final section, following the same directions in step 3.

5. Once all the paint is completely dry, you can add your “cherry” key chain!

Have a Happy Ice Cream Month!
