Okay, so maybe Valentine’s Day isn’t your thing. And maybe hating Valentine’s Day is your cup of tea! Because I mean, who needs an actual Valentine to celebrate Valentine’s Day, anyway?! Celebrate with your gal pals! Celebrate Galentine’s Day!

“What’s Galentine’s Day? Oh it’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas.” – Leslie Knope

Speaking of Leslie Knope, let me introduce to you this Valentine’s Galentine’s Day season’s free printable! (Here’s something I made last year for Dawn Nicole Designs.)

  1. Pattern plates A and B like A-B-A-B-A-B-A-B etc. Tape them together at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock.
  2. Pattern plates C and D like C-D-C-D-C-D-C-D etc. Tape them together at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock.
  3. Do the same patterns for 7-10 rows.
  4. Apply hot glue on the bottoms of C-D-C-D plates in the same design that “GLUE” is spelled out in the picture above. Then gently press down a row of A-B-A-B plates on top of the hot glue. Let the glue cool.
  5. Do the same process until you’ve glued down all rows of plates. Let the glue cool.
  6. To hang up your Moroccan plates backdrop, use pieces of packing tape to stick to the top row of plates, then stick it to a wall.

DIY Ultimate Valentine 2

You love your Valentine. That’s why you want to get them literally almost anything- and everything-Valentine’s-Day-themed. Roses, candy, flowers, and of course the frilly, traditional Valentines. But that would be too much, right? WRONG!

This Valentine’s Day season, and especially with this DIY, MORE IS MORE! And it. Is. Awesome.

DIY Ultimate Valentine

  • Pink poster board
  • Large alphabet stickers
  • Paper doilies
  • Faux flowers
  • Sweet heart candies
  • Valentine’s Day-themed stickers galore
  • Anything else you want
  • Hot glue gun + hot glue
  • Pen
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • FREE PRINTABLE manila tags – download here!
  • Bakers twine
  1. Start by cutting a large heart out of the poster board.
  2. Cut off the edges of the paper doilies, and tape them on the edge of the heart. Once you’ve gone all the way around the edge of the heart, flip the heart over.
  3. Start decorating the front first by using the large alphabet stickers to write your love note.
  4. Decorate the front of the heart with anything your heart (your real one, ha!) desires! The more the better. Remember: more is more!
  5. To glue on faux flowers, cut off the fake bloom, estimate where you want to put it, then use a pen to poke a small hole in the poster board. Add hot glue to the back of the fake flower, stick the little bit of stem in the hole you poked, and hold the flower in place until the glue cools.
  6. Don’t forget to print off your free printable manila tag to write a longer note to your Valentine! Cut it out, punch a hole in it, and attach some bakers twine to the hole. Use a dab of hot glue to attach the tag to the very center of your ultimate Valentine.

DIY: Accordion Photo Album Box

This is a perfect home-made present for any occasion, but I gave mine to my hubby for Valentine’s Day.  It’s a timeline of the major events we’ve had during our relationship, from our courtship to the day we became parents. *Awww* I figured since a picture is worth a thousand words, this would top any card I could write him. It’s like 12,000 words. I mean, try to top that! You can’t.

  • Wooden box
  • Card stock paper
  • Photos
  • Glue
  • Scissors, ruler & pen OR straight-edge cutter

1. Measure your paper so it’ll fit nicely inside the box once it’s folded up.

2. Cut strips of card stock.

3. Fold each strip of paper every other way, like an accordion. Be sure to leave a seam on one end of the strips of paper to glue them all together.

4. Glue the strips of paper together.

5. Crop your photos to fit each folded part of the paper.

6. Glue the photos to the paper.

7. Glue the “accordion” to the bottom of the wooden box.

Unique, thoughtful, home-made!
What I really love about this is that I can add photos to it as time goes along – a photo of our next baby, a picture of our first house…. It’s a gift that keeps on giving!
