There’s no better holiday to use place cards for than Thanksgiving! And place cards don’t have to be boring or super formal. They can be fun and colorful! And these polymer clay Thanksgiving pie place cards are just the ticket for a fun and colorful Thanksgiving dinner!

Supplies:

  • Polymer oven-bake clay, assorted colors
  • Floral wire
  • Glass pan
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Wire cutters
  • Knife
  1. First, prep the floral wire. Use the wire cutters to trim off the length of wire you desire.
Use the needle nose pliers to make a swirl pattern (like in the pictures) — this is where you’ll stick the place cards, or photos or your Thanksgiving dinner guests!
  2. Now to make the pie slices! (I made the classic pumpkin pie, and a strawberry Jell-O pink pie!)
To make the pie filling part, form a piece of clay into a thick triangle. Use a knife to cut it into a more perfect shape, if desired.
    Set this aside.
  3. Make the pie crust by flattening a piece of tan clay into a shape large enough that you can fit the pie filling part on top. Place the pie filling on top of the tan “crust” piece, and wrap a piece of it up the back (just like normal pie crust does). Use a knife to trim off any extra “crust.”
  4. To make the whipped cream, pinch off a small piece of white clay, and roll it into a ball. Flatten one side to make the bottom, and the gently pinch the other side to make a pointed top.
To make a twisted effect, place your thumb and index finger on opposite sides, and gently twist the “whipped cream” from the base to the point.
Score the bottom of the “whipped cream.” and gently press it down on the top of the pie.
  5. Repeat steps 2-4 for every clay pie you make.
  6. Now stick the swirly wire pieces into the pies — yes, before baking! You can bake metal wire (and foil, for that matter) in the oven with polymer clay!
  7. Assemble your pieces on your glass pan, and bake them according to directions (I baked mine for 45 mins-1 hour).
When they’re done baking, let them cool fully before you stick in the place cards or photos!

Happy Thanksgiving!
