DIY Anthropologie Hack: Pyrite Lamp

The Supplies

  • Various sized rocks
  • Lamp base
  • Gold(and silver) metallic spray paint
  • Hot glue gun
  • Sandpaper

1. Go in your backyard, a nearby parking lot, junk yard, whatever, and collect various sizes of rocks. The ones with more texture are the best because they will look more like pyrite when spray painted.

2. Lay out newspaper outside and spray paint your rocks. If necessary, wipe them off with a damp rag, or even rinse them off, but make sure they are completely dry before you spray paint them if you do this. When the paint is dry flip the rocks over and spray paint the other side.

3. While your rocks are drying, take sand paper to the base of the lamp – it’ll make the glue stick better.

4. Position the rocks, then glue them down with a hot glue gun. Keep stacking rocks until you form a closed, square-ish dome.
Then you’re done!
UPDATE: After researching what pyrite looks like, I felt that having just gold rocks wasn’t similar enough. So I decided to spray painted the entire rock base with a silver metallic spray paint, giving the rock base a gold-silver color, which I thought looked more like pyrite.
